アメリカ創造力の危機

子供たちの学びをアメリカの創造力危機への対策と変化させること

内容は、Newsweekの"The Creativity Crisis"(http://bit.ly/avK5Oi)という論文の『過去20年間で、どれだけアメリカの創造力が減ってしまったか! どうしよう!!』っていう話を元に、アメリカの教育システムは学力重視(記憶力とか)の方向へ行ってるけど、いったいどうしたらいいのか!! って話。

1500社のCEOたちにアンケートで聞いた結果、テストで満点が取れる人よりも、 新しい発想で問題解決できる人の方を採用したい!って事が解ったり、
ヨーロッパや中国は創造力を育てるプログラムへと移行してるのに、アメリカはその逆に向かってるけど、どうする??? とか、
創造力を評価するCQテストの紹介など。

あ、この先いかにコンピューター技術が大切になってくるかも書いてある。

そいで、さっきのCEOへのアンケートから出た5つのキーポイントの紹介。


- Communication skills: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; capacity to efficiently manage communication channels (email, social media) to collaborate and influence others
- Pro-Activeness: Ability and willingness to act, take initiative to set an idea in motion
- Problem-solving skills: Ability to arrive at new solutions by looking beyond obvious or traditional approaches
- Curiosity: Ability to ask the right questions that lead to solutions
- Risk-taking: Being open to risk (and thus failure); openness to trying something new

①コミュニケーションスキル:明確・簡潔に伝えることが出来る、いろいろなメディア(EメールやSNS)を効果的に使い他の人達に影響を与え、コラボレート出来る
②自発性:自分から率先して動き、アイデアを実現していく力と、そう願う心
③問題解決能力:今までの手法を乗り越えた新しい方法で問題を解決できる力
④好奇心:問題解決へと繋がる “正しい” 質問をすることが出来る力
⑤リスクを背負うこと:失敗やリスクを受け入れられる状態にあること、なにか新しいことを試すことに寛容なこと

A Postcard For The Best Friend

Kai had a lot of friends in Fairfax, and especially, a boy who lived in the same apartment was a special friend. Kai always visited his room, and the friend visited our room too. I felt he was like Kai’s brother. And, you know, the best friends: whatever he liked, Kai liked. Kai spoke like he spoke, etc, etc.

In Hong Kong, Kai always talks about this friend, so I suggested sending a letter for him. We went to a gift shop, Kai spent a long time to choose a post card. Kai chose fireworks postcard. Kai said, “because he doesn’t know!!” In deed, we saw this fireworks on October 1st for Chinese National Day.  It was one of the spectacular experiences in HK.

The Hong Kong Institute of Education HSBC Early Childhood Learning Centre

 




香港教育学院の付属園、オープンハウスがあったので、見学させて頂きました。

プログラムは、プロジェクトアプローチに近いけど、違うらしい。


モンテソーリでもレッジョでもなく、『Q, E, E』と言って、Question, Explore, Experienceの3つのキーワードを基本方針にしてる。



Their program is similar to Project Approach, but it is different, they say. It's not Montessori nor Reggio. It is called "Q.E.E", which means Question, Explore, and Experince.



Zippy's Friend という、Social/Emotional Developmentを補助?するカリキュラムを取り入れてる。

"Zippy's Friend", a social/emotional development program is installed into older class.



対象は、0歳から6歳まで。 Age: 0 to 6.

園が出来てから7年目。 Since 2003.


一クラス子ども15人くらい。 About 15children/class


クラスは2,3歳、3,4歳、4,5歳とちょっとだけ混ざってる。 mixed age class: 2-3, 3-4, & 4-5


言語は、広東語で英語はほんの少しだけ。 Mostly, Cantonese, little bit English.


いろいろ見せてもらったけど、とくに先生たちが『子どもの活動を先生はガイドするんです!』って言ってたのが印象的。 確かに、その跡が園内あちこちに見えた。 There were a lot of interesting things, but it was really inpressive when teachers told me, "We 'guide' children!!"




残念な部分は、オモチャや工作の材料がほとんどプラスチックであったこと。

せっかく、自然に囲まれた環境なのに、もったいない。


One sad point in this school was their toys and materials. They were mostly made by plastics. Especially, infant room. You know, very young children use their mouth to feel the world. I'm sure that those plastic materials passed some kinds of safety test, but... I don't feel good for them.




環境は、香港内の園としては素晴らしいと思う。

周りを豊かな森と山に囲まれて、海も近いし。


チョウチョとかも飛んでた。


裏には、小さいけれどガーデニングのスペースもあるし。



This school's environment is awesome! Natural forest, green trees, burterfly, and so on. The ocean is pretty close too. They have a "small" gardening space too. I believe that their air quolity is much better than those in the city.






キッチンがあって、専属のコックさんがいるのも、素晴らしい。

保護者の保育への参加も活発なようで、保護者用の部屋はとても立派で居心地が良さそうだったし、園内のあちこちに大人用のソファーがあった。 大体、ソファーがある所には子供用の小さな本棚も一緒に置いてあって、いいなぁ~と思った。




It is really nice to have own kitchen and chef in the school. Also, their parents involvement is great. There are couches for parents and they looked confortable. Moreover, I liked the fact that they have chidlren's bookshelf near those couches. In addition, they have a library in this school, so parents, teachers, and interns can check the books out. Pretty big space for the library.

また、保護者・学生・先生たちが使える図書室が園内にあって、たくさんの本が置いてあるのは本当に素敵だ。



今度、サンフランシスコの園の写真を持っていく約束をしたので、

ぜひ、先生たちが子供たちとどの様に関わっているのか?見学させてもらおうと思う。

Playing in the Jungle of Skyscrapers (Hong Kong)

In Hong Kong, there are so many high buildings, that is what we see, what we touch, where we live in and, of course, where we play.

香港にある、たくさんの高層ビルたち。 このビルたちこそが、自分たちが目にし手に触れるものであり、ここで生活し、遊びます。

※The climbing activity became a point getting and adding game after this video. The points were counted by how many stairs he got.

We did not prepare anything for this play, but I felt that the skyscrapers have a lot of potential to learn many things, such as architecture (block constructing play), discovery from different perception, literacy, math, art, social rules, physical skills, and so on.

In addition, the toilets are clean in skyscrapers. It is really important in HK, you know…

今回、何も用意しないで遊びに行きましたが、高層ビルの群れにはいろいろな可能性を感じました。 いろいろな形の建築物、標識・表示に書かれてある文字やエレベーターの数字を学ぶこと、単純に階段を登るという身体能力やバランス、高い場所という違う視点からの新しい発見、静かにするべき所、騒いでも良い所、走っても良い所とそうじゃない場所、他の人に先をゆずるとか、掃除のおばちゃんやガードマンの人達との交流、たった一つの場所なのにたくさんの違った社会的なルールがあること などなど。

それと、どこのビルでもトイレがすごく清潔なのもありがたい!!

Last week, one of the museum stuff, Glen, who is taking care of our exhibition, made this shape for all our children and guests. So, not only the “Alphabet Hunting,” but also we have a potential to play “Shape Hunting” in the museum!!

BADM Floor Report: The Best Story Ever

In Look Out Cove, there were 6 children.
They were looking for treasures in the Pirate Boat.

I was helping them to find treasures: rocks, Chinese pots, pennies, and so on.
While I was talking with them, I learned that today was a birthday for one of them.

I left the Pirate Boat to check other people and exhibit.

Then, one of the girl came to me, and she asked if I could help finding more pennies.

She explained that they decided to buy a secret gift for the birthday girl with those pennies they found in the treasure boat.

She told me that I must keep it secret.



I thought how wonderful and considerable those children were!!!



So, I said, "Here, take some of mine. I 'found' those too."
(You know, I did not find. Those were change from my pocket...)

Then, this girl said, "Oh, no. You keep it because you found it."

Oh, my...

I felt so deeply.

So, I happily helped them finding more treasures.

Kamishibai in Bay Area Discovery Museum

ミュージアムにて、紙芝居に関する2つのイベントを毎月行うことになりました!

 

  1. 第三週の水曜日、11:30-12:00、紙芝居と日本の歌などをおりまぜ たストーリータイム。

  2. 第三週の土曜日、3:30-4:30、紙芝居アート。P8210362

※ただし、9月はミュージアムの改修工事期間に当たるため、10月から始まります!

 

ストーリータイムは、地元の日本人のお母さんグループ(Marin Kamishibai Club)がボランティアとして、紙芝居アートはChicoに在住のChieko Pageさんが、これまたボランティアで協力してくださる事になります。

 

この他、ミュージアム独自の紙芝居を作り、地元のプリスクールを訪問する際に使うというプロジェクトも進行中です♪

 

自分は今後ミュージアムを離れ、香港に引越しをします。 このミュージアムは、もともと数人のお母さんたちが子供たちの為にと始めたもの。  皆さんのミュージアムです。 今後とも、アイデアやリサイクル材料、紙芝居の購入資金の提供などなど、ぜひぜひ、お力をお貸し下さい!!

 

素敵なミュージアムが育っていくことを願います。

Alphabet Hunting@BADM

Inspired by two books, Arlene Alda’s “ABC” & Stephen Johnson’s “Alphabet City”, and the alphabet project at Monterey Peninsula College Child Development Center.

The pictures below are some of the clues to “HUNT” hidden alphabets on BADM. This program, "Alphabet Hunting," will be on Saturday Aug 7, 3:00-5:00. We will gather in front of the TOT SPOT and try to hunt alphabets as much as we can!!
